Fashion Mondays: How to survive the festivals

Emma Billingham

Let's face it, the glimpse of sunshine was just too good to be true, and before we know it the wet weather warnings will be back out.

And it's just in time for the great British summer and the festival season that comes with it.

Glastonbury is on this weekend and I'll be placing bets for it to become the mud bath we always see the best pictures from. In light of this, you should make sure you are ready and fully prepared.

My colleague, who experienced Glastonbury a couple of years ago, can't get over how cold she was and advises a fleece. 'You shouldn't bother looking good when you're camping' are her wise words.

Top of the festival shopping list, of course, should be a good pair of wellington boots; there's some excellent glow-in-the-dark ones, simple purple, or go patriotic with a Union Jack print.

Of course with the mud is the rain, that, quite frankly, could get upsetting. You don't want a full-on coat as it could be a bit warm and muggy, or you might not want to hide your festival outfit, so what do you do? How about a nice and easy pocket poncho? Just keep it in your pocket in case of a surprise downpour and everything is hunky dory.

And then of course comes the risk of losing your friends in the field, as well as the need to do those all important social media updates and reassure mum and dad you're fine and just need a shower when you're home. Keep a handy portable charger in your tent and top up your battery when you come back for a pit stop.

And finally, if you just need to make sure you have everything you may or may not need for the weekend, just pick up a Festival Essentials Box - complete with toilet paper.
