Davies and Jackman take on captaincy roles as Rebels announce retained list

Josh Jackman is the club’s new vice captain

Slough Town have announced their provisional retained list following the end of the National League South campaign, players who have either agreed to stay or have already signed terms for the coming season.

So far 10 players, including Scott Davies, Lee Togwell, Matt Lench and Josh Jackman have agreed to remain with the Rebels next season while talks are continuing with Aaron Kuhl and last season's number one goalkeeper Jonathan North.

Davies is set to be the new club captain with Jackman taking on the vice captaincy role.

Davies said: "I’m delighted to be asked by Bakes and Unders to stay on for another season. For me, the club is going in a good direction with a nice blend of experience and youth in amongst the side.

"If I can help give back some of my knowledge to the younger players in the squad then I’ll be more than happy to help in what I believe will be a good season for us!"

Many of the club's emerging talents from last season are also set to stay on, such as u23s Academy graduates Gabe George, Joe Dandy, Eitel Goueth and Imran Kayani. Edon Pruti and George Hunt - two players signed after progressing through the Burnley and Bournemouth academies, and who both made a big impact last season - are also set to stay.

The club hopes to be able to give more information on the future of Kuhl and North in the coming weeks.

Kurtis Cumberbatch was also offered the chance to come back in pre-season, but he is set to 'review firmer offers' while Joe Lawal is set to return for pre-season alongside several others from the u23s academy.

Striker turned central defender Ryan Bird is also expected to be back for pre-season as he continues his recovery following a long-term injury. The club statement said he is making excellent progress and will aim to prove his fitness to the management team.

Jon Underwood and Neil Baker - who are celebrating 10 years as joint managers of the club this month - have also spoken with numerous players, including one or two familiar faces, who they hope to persuade back to the club.

With plenty of positive work taking place in the background, the club hopes to be able to announce a few new signings in the coming weeks.

Early bird discounted season ticket deals end today (May 31). Visit the club's website for more details.
