Windsor RFC coach Pattinson heaps praise onto Royals after Chippenham clash

Windsor RFC head coach Jack Pattinson had ‘nothing but love’ for his side in Saturday’s victory against Chippenham.

The Royals stunned their fifth-placed opponents at Home Park 10-7, with Ben Grant-Adamson and Chris Reynolds scoring Windsor two tries inside the opening half an hour.

Having suffered a surprise defeat to Salisbury a week earlier, the Royals were determined to bounce back with a result to bolster their chances of staying within the South West 1 East and that they did with a resolute display.

After the game, Pattinson expressed his delight to see his side emerge victorious.

“It’s not the best game of rugby I’ve ever seen but the huge character and huge heart did enough to win the game,” said Pattinson.

“All I wanted to see was a bit of a bounce back after the last two performances. I think you saw 18 committed blokes with loads of character that really got stuck into it (the game).

“Yeah it was a scrap. We knew it was going to be a scrap if we were going to get something from it but fair play to the boys. I’ve got nothing but love for them.”

The head coach added: “You hope you can build some momentum on it. That’s the plan anyway.

“Obviously we’ve got another two tough games in February but as I said all season, it’s just one game at a time.

“But I think there are a lot of positives we can take particularly around our defence and set piece we showed today.

“And also in our attack we had some good variety at times so yeah, we’re going in the right direction and it’s still a long working project.

“I’m proud and we’ll have a beer tonight to celebrate.”
