Windsor RFC hold virtual rugby socials to keep in contact with members

Windsor RFC held their first virtual rugby social this week in a bid to reach out to members and alleviate some of the boredom brought on by the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.

Some 20 members took part in the Zoom call on Saturday afternoon, when the Royals should have been in action on the field, and more events and quizzes are planned in the coming weeks.

Business aspects were also covered, and while chair Helen Crick admitted the club’s balance sheet doesn’t look great, it’s ‘not disastrous yet’. They’ll be doing all they can to ensure the club gets through this unsettling period and will endeavour to access whatever financial support and guidance becomes available from the RFU.

“Our mission is to ensure the club survives this period and remains in place for its membership,” she said in the club newsletter. “More importantly, we want to make sure you are keeping well.

“We’ve agreed that we will hold a call/social/meeting every Saturday at 2.30pm (roughly kick-off time) so that we can spend some time together as a community. We will be drafting a schedule for what we can do each Saturday, so any suggestions please let us know. Next Saturday will be our first quiz.”

She added: “Our coaching team are also putting together some fitness ideas and hopefully we will be running some live sessions at the weekend. We have been approaching some international players and are optimistic of having them in some guest episodes.”

With the health situation not likely to improve in the short term the club has also taken the step of cancelling its summer ball in June. She also urged vulnerable supporters to contact the club if they were in need of help.

“I’d like to thank the u13s for the hard work they put in, and the amazing response on ticket sales,” she said. “We are of course planning some great socials for when we can reopen.

“We are about to enter into some tough times. If you need help or assistance for anything, now, or in the coming months, please do not hesitate to contact anyone at the club. Please don’t suffer in silence.”
