Slough Jets left deflated as play-off hopes are punctured by Telford Tigers

A tyre blowout on the M40 meant the Slough Jets arrived late for their game at the Telford Tigers on Sunday.

But they may have wished the game had never started as Craig Moran’s side slipped to another embarrassingly one-sided defeat, losing 6-1.

The match was put back by over an hour, but it didn’t take long for the Tigers to get their claws into the Jets with Joe Miller opening the scoring on 9.43.

Adam Taylor scored to make it 2-0 on 11.09, and James Smith scored the home side’s third when Marek Mikusovic made it 4-0 on 14.05 against a Jets’ team whose heads were still out on the motorway.

Ales Padelek stepped forward to finish from Stephen Balmer and convert a powerplay at 15.01 to make it 4-1 to Telford at the end of the first period.

Life didn’t get any easier for the Jets as Taylor notched his second on 26.55 and then Adam Walker pounced to make it 6-1.

There were no further goals for the Tigers’ fans to cheer, but that was primarily because of an exceptional performance from the Jets’ netminder Andrej Vasiljevic, who saved 22 shots in the second period, and faced more than twice the shots of his Tigers’ counterpart by the end of the game.

*Slough Jets skated onto the ice at The Hangar on Saturday night knowing nothing less than a win over the Telford Tigers would keep their play-off dream alive.

But Craig Moran’s side went down in a competitive 5-2 loss in front of supporters who also turned out to see ex-Slough legend Steve Moria showcase his ice hockey leisure wear.

Marek Makusovic put the visitors ahead with the game’s opening goal and the first period finished 1-0 to the Tigers.

The hosts dominated the second period and Ales Padelek got them back on level terms with a goal on 20.30 and Mindy Kieras (pictured) came up with their second on 30.29 to put the Jets on course for a win at the end of the second period.

But against the run of play Joe Miller levelled for the Tigers on 44.48, and then netted the decider in the 48th minute.

The visitors took advantage of Slough’s desperation to forge a way back into the contest and finished them off with goals from Michal Pavlu on 50.08 and Nathan Salem on 52.33 to make the final scoreline a flattering 5-2 to the visitors.
