Getting ready for Hampton Court Flower Show

Bonnie Davies is an award winning garden designer who works at Burnham's family-run, Davies Brothers Nursery. Welcome to her blog where she shares her thoughts on all things green.

Flower Shows are the best way for designers to experiment with different ideas, and puts the gardens on a stage for visitors to view and hopefully enjoy. I didn’t enter any of the flower shows last year due to a hectic schedule, but now I am starting to get withdrawal symptoms. The application packs for Hampton Court will be sent out soon, and then its ink to the drawing board to get the designs submitted by Christmas.

The inspiration for the garden, if we are lucky enough to be accepted by the RHS, has come from my Granddad Hayd who will be working with us to create the garden. We’ve got a few ideas in the pipeline, and I can’t wait to get them down on paper. We want to create a garden that revives an old fashioned trend, and makes gardening accessible to everyone, including those who are less abled and those with smaller outdoor spaces.

The fun bit is designing the garden, then comes the agonising wait while they decide whether to allocate a space for the design, and then comes the stress of actually building and funding it. Wish me luck, I will keep you updated on the progress.

Happy Gardening,

Bonnie x
