Thames Valley Police Rugby will play their first cup fixture against Sussex Police at Maidenhead RFC’s Braywick Ground tomorrow (Wednesday) (5.30pm kick-off).
The force’s rugby section has been in the doldrums in recent years but tactical firearms unit PC Richard Johnston and a colleague have managed to get it up and running again.
Already this season they’ve played a 15-a-side fixture against High Wycombe RFC and won the plate competition in the national police sevens tournament at Stourbridge RFC in September.
“Our aim is to promote Thames Valley Police in the community through sport, as well as enter the police cup competitions and we have several more fixtures within Thames Valley in the pipeline, including a game against Maidenhead RFC in the near future,” said Richard.
“I encourage people to come and watch the game as we need as much support as possible.”
