A group of five friends are embarking on an 87-mile bike ride, stopping at 15 pubs along the way, to raise funds for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
The men, aged between 18 and 23, are Jamie Croft, Harry Grey, Peter Watson and Nathan Austin, who all live in Maidenhead, and Tim Broughton, of Slough, and they will take to the pedals on Monday, August 24.
The friends know each other from meeting at the Thatched Cottage pub in Cannon Lane, where Tim and Jamie work, and Harry, Peter and Nathan frequent.
Tim, 23, who attended Furze Platt School in Furze Platt Road, said he wanted to arrange a bike ride and added a good cause.
“I just wanted to get out on a bike ride with a few mates and thought we could make it into a charity event,” he said.
“The pub has sponsored Alexander Devine quite a lot in different events, and so I thought that they were a worthy cause.”
The route will begin and end at the Thatched Cottage pub via Earley, Tadley, Farnham, Crowthorne, and Warfield, where the boys will do fundraising activities.
Tim said: “I’m looking forward to the ride but it will definitely be a challenge if the weather is going to be piping hot.
“We will have to make sure we stay hydrated.”
Fiona Devine, co-founder of Alexander Devine, said: “It sounds like they are going to have a wonderful adventure.
“They have put so much into planning their fundraiser and we are very grateful that they are doing it in aid of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service – it sounds like so much more fun than my regular spinning class.”
The men are also fundraising for Stand Out For Autism, a local non-profit organisation.
They are hoping to raise £1,000 for the charities.
